Kenyan Soapstone is found in the region of Kisii, near Lake Victoria in Kenya. Naturally occurring colours include white, bone, yellows, apricots, pinks, deep pinks and grays. Originally mined from thie hills around the village of Tabaka, using knives and handmade tools, each piece is individually carved.

The craftspeople display wonderful soapstone sculptures designs and artistic skills in a huge variety of shapes and forms, some softly symbolic, some practical and some display objects. All soapstone carvings have the alluring feel of polished smooth stone. Soapstone carvings vary in colors and sizes with the stone hue between black and light browhn with some tiged with red and others with blue or green.
